The woman who died after a horror crash in Westhoughton has been named, as her family paid an emotional tribute. 

Irene Marion Bull (née Hanaghan), aged 71, died after the crash on Lower Leigh Road on Friday, December 15

She was taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries, but died on Monday, December 18. 

In a statement the family said: “She leaves behind two loving kids Paul and Lindsey, and two loving grandchildren Callum and Connor, that she lived for as well as other family members that are all grieving her loss.

“She was strong, courageous and a force to be reckoned with. The heart of the family. She fought many obstacles in her life but strength and love for her children kept her going.

“We take comfort in the fact that she is now at peace and reunited with her much-loved mum Kathleen. The loss we have experienced will never leave us.

“RIP Mum, you’re now free from pain.” 

Officers are continuing to investigate the incident, which occurred at around 4.15pm on Friday. 

Investigators from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are still keen to speak to any witnesses of the collision, or anyone who has dashcam footage that will assist with their enquiries.

It was previously reported that a car heading towards Westhoughton overtook an HGV and later collided with a car coming in the opposite direction.

A third vehicle crashed then into the back of this car as it came to a stop.
