Eagle-eyed Looking Back readers may have recognised where this photo from the archives was taken, but we wonder how many of them realise the historical significance of the picture.
It was taken on Deansgate in 1935 and the impressive building in the background is the Post Office.
But the real reason for the photo was that it showed Bolton’s first ‘Belisha’ crossing. Metal studs had been laid into the road surface but the flashing beacons themselves had not yet been put up.
