A new delicatessen has officially opened in Heaton, offering something different for locals.

Provisions Heaton welcomed customers on Wednesday, December 20 after restaurant owners Joe Whittaker, Pete Lancaster, and James Dagnall found a gap in the market.

They noticed many were travelling further for essentials like meats and cheeses.

After the trio purchased a unit on the corner for a Neapolitan style pizzeria, they thought it would be the perfect place to compliment their restaurant, Tesoro, which set to open in February or March.

James said: “It’s exciting and it’s a good way for people to meet different people and have different conversations.

The Bolton News: “After getting the restaurant on the corner, this place came available, and there’s nothing in the area for locals to get bits.

“It allows us to sell products that people can’t get at supermarkets and other stores, and it is a mix with everyday items.”

The new deli also has an alcohol licence and there are plans to host wine and cheese nights, where customers can sample wines and cheeses, and enjoy a cheese board, and the wines of the week by the bottle or glass.

James added: “Some of the products we use on the pizzas will be available to purchase on the deli.

“We are hoping in a couple of weeks that people can sample the wines and enjoy the wine and cheese nights.”

The Bolton News: Customers can also enjoy a range of fresh coffee, pastries, and fresh juices, and will soon be able to relax in the outdoor seating area.

Many products are special Italian products  only available at the deli.

James said: “We are hoping that when the restaurant opens that they will complement each other.

“We are feeling good about the future.”

The original idea for the pizzeria came about after three friends took over The Finishers Arms on Church Road and installed a pizza oven, which “took off”.

Pete and Joe have been in the food industry for a long time, and James joined them a few years ago, after having electrical company ECP for 10 years – which he still has.

James looks after the administration side of the businesses for the ECP, The Finishers Arms, Provisions, and what will be the restaurant.

James added: "Joe and Pete are the creative side with the menu’s and sourcing the very best produce as we only use the very best as opposed to using cheaper products for more profits.

"We only want the very best."

Provisions Heaton is open seven days a week, and is located on New Hall Lane, next to The Coffee Shop @ Heaton.
