Works will take place on a major road between Bolton and Manchester for months from next week.

The roadworks will take place on the A580 East Lancashire Road at its junctions with Lancaster Road and Worsley Road.

Work will begin on Monday, January 8 at both junctions, as part of the Salford Bolton Network Improvements (SBNI) Programme, and is due to be completed in summer.

They are being done in order to improve bus reliability in the area, as well as providing "improvements for pedestrians and general traffic".

Working hours will be Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm.

There will be temporary bus lane suspensions and lane closures at both junctions throughout the works.

To minimise disruption for residents and commuters the works affecting traffic flow will be carried out between the following hours:

Wigan-bound side of the A580 from 8.30am to 2.30pm

Manchester-bound side of the A580 from 10.30am to 3.30pm

For the safety of commuters and the workforce, a 30mph speed limit will be in place through and between the junctions for the duration of the project.

Towards the end of the project, work will also require the closure to junctions overnight for carriageway resurfacing. More details on this will be provided nearer the time.
