A plan for the transformation of an ex-joinery into five homes was given the green light by Bolton Council.

Danimore Construction Ltd applied for prior approval for the site next to Back Bury Road South in Breightmet last year.

The plan for the transformation of an ex-joinery, Makinson & Worsley, into five homes includes five, two-storey houses, each one with a driveway at the front and and a garden at the rear.

The application was for prior approval rather than planning permission as a change of use from commercial use to residential use is permitted development when certain conditions are met.

On December 28, in spite of opposition from four residents, it was given the green light by the council.

There were concerns among the residents of the area around Back Bury Road South about issues such as access and on-street parking but these concerns were not shared by the Highways Team.

A report said: "The Local Planning Authority determined prior approval in respect of the development is required.

"Further the Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council give notice in pursuance of the provisions of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 that prior approval has been given for the carrying out of the development in accordance with the application or as agreed in writing with the Local Planning Authority, which means in this case in accordance with the conditions."

The transformation must start before the prior approval expires in three years.
