The courts had a busy end to the year over the course of last month.

During the festive period drug dealers, dangerous drivers, burglars and a man who'd repeatedly come into the country illegally were all dealt with.

What follows are the names, faces and crimes of seven people jailed in December.

Artan Haka, 33 of no fixed abode, had grown cannabis with another man in an abandoned building in Bolton town centre.

He was jailed for 14 months.

William Calderley, 41 of Kenton Close, Halliwell, sent himself abusive messages posing as a witness in his own trial. 

He was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

Adam Ross, 30, was finally sentenced for taking part in a 'race' that killed 59-year-old John Richardson more than four years ago. The other racer had already been jailed.

Ross, of Daisy Street, Deane, was jailed for 11 years and banned from driving for seven years.

Matthew Openshaw, 48, was already known as a 'prolific burglar' when he broke into the premises of a group that aimed to help the homeless and vulnerable. He was also already on bail at the time.

Openshaw, of Westland Avenue in Farnworth, was jailed for eight months.

Christopher David, 46, had been coming into the country illegally before being deported again several times. During his most recent arrest he boasted to border agents "I'll be back and back and back."

David, of Deane Road, Bolton, was sentenced to 16 months in prison.

Wasim Iqbal, 26, was caught dangerous driving on Chorley New Road. This was the very same road where he had taken part in a race that struck and killed former Mayoress of Bolton Gay Wharton more than two years ago.

Iqbal, of Chester Road, Manchester, was jailed again for four years and three months.

Marie Beveridge, 46, betrayed the trust of a family who brought her tea by following them into their house and stealing money.

She was sentenced to 20 months in prison.
