Bolton’s markets have been at the heart of the town for decades.
This photo from 1990 shows a busy Ashburner Street market shortly after it had been announced it was due to undergo a £2 million revamp. Do you remember any of the stalls you can see here?
Also, do you remember the Bolton Evening News clock which hung from one of the girders which supported the market roof? We wonder what happened to the clock. Did anyone ‘rescue’ it?
