We can’t imagine that the woman in this photo had just nipped out from her bungalow to visit the pub across the road but it’s an interesting thought.
Taken in 1962, this picture shows the Jolly Ploughman pub on Doffcocker Lane. The pub, with its Tudor-style frontage was a popular local for many years and as you can see from the sign, at the time of the photo was a Wilson’s house.
Sadly the pub joined the long list of closed establishments when time was called for the final time around 2011.
Do you remember the Jolly Ploughman? It had a number of successful sports teams over the years. Share your memories with us and leave a comment.
