Drivers have been warned to take extra care as vehicles have become stuck in Belmont.

It comes as officers have received reports of icy conditions, with vehicles being stuck on Rivington Road, near the Black Dog pub.

A spokesperson for Chorley Police said: “Good evening.

“Officers have received reports of ice on the road and vehicles stuck on Rivington Road, Belmont near the Black Dog Inn.

“Please exercise caution if travelling in this area.”

Severe weather warnings were in place for snow and ice across the North West as the UK was gripped in a cold plunge of Artic air, which moved in from the north across the whole of the country.

Temperatures fell as low as -3° and a yellow weather warning has been in place since the start of the day.

Temperatures are expected to remain cold over the rest of the week but as of yet snow has only been predicted for today, although the warning is in place until Thursday.
