Bolton was transformed into a winter wonderland as the forecast snow fell as predicted.

The Met Office had been warning of snowfall in the region and had issued a yellow warning.

Snowflakes started to fall at around 6am and continued throughout the morning as an Arctic blast swept through the country.

These wonderful pictures were taken across the borough.

The wintry weather caused no major disruptions with no reports of schools closing and commuters reported an extra 30 minutes on their journey.

The yellow warning for snow and ice will stay in force until Thursday but no more snow is forecast - as yet - for Bolton.

With temperatures struggling to get above zero, a plea has gone out for people to look out for each other and to take extra care to avoid injury.

Dr. Francis Andrews, Medical Director at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said: “January is always a really busy time for our Emergency Department and hospital and community services, especially when freezing temperatures set in.

“The Met Office’s yellow warning for snow and ice means there’s an increase chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy roads and pavements, particularly for people who are more vulnerable to the effects of cold weather.

“Please take extra care when out and about over the next few days, and look out for family and friends who are more vulnerable by checking to see if they need help or are feeling unwell.

Our emergency department is always here to help in an life or limb-threatening emergency, but there are lots of other ways you can keep safe and well, including visiting your local pharmacist who is highly-skilled to deal with winter ailments such as coughs and colds.
