Plans for a large ‘destination’ sports bar on the outskirts of Bolton have been unveiled.

A planning application lodged this week reveals ambitious plans to create Smashley’s Sports Bar in three units at Dunscar Business Park on the northern outskirts of the town, near Egerton.

The plans also include restoring the former ‘Samuels’ clock, which was previously located above their store on Deansgate, Bolton as a feature at the new bar.

A design and access statement from applicant Nigel Moon of Smashley’s Ltd, said: “The new Smashley’s Sports Bar will create employment for up to 40 people directly and will be open seven days a week from 11am to 12pm, with extended licensing hours on Fridays and Saturdays till 2am.

“There is also a proposal to relocate the Samuels’ clock from Deansgate to the gable of unit 1. ”

The site is located off the A666 Blackburn Road to the north of Bolton town centre and has been developed as a successful business park over the last couple of decades.

“Previously the units have been licensed trade premises, including a microbrewery.

“The site is part of the Bleachworks Mill which was constructed in mid-Victorian times and all business units are sited within the existing factory facilities comprising slate duo-pitched roofs with split-faced stone walls.”

The application said there are currently 140 car park spaces at the Dunscar business park and as the majority of visits to the new bar would be after office hours existing estate tenants would not be impacted.

The application, concluded: “The principle of licensed trade use is applicable to the site and re-development of a brownfield site, without impact on the local environment to create a large and successful destination sports bar.”

The application will be decided on by Bolton Council in the coming weeks.
