Bolton was covered in a blanket of snow this morning as the wintry weather continued.

Although this time it took people a little by surprise as snow was not forecast to fall.

Disruption was kept to a minimum with no reports of school closures and roads across Bolton seem passable.

But council officials did issue a warning about bin collections, stating they could be impacted by the bad weather.

A spokesman for Bolton Council said: "Due to the adverse weather conditions this week, we have been unable to access multiple streets across the borough for bin collections.

"The risks to operatives and other road users have been assessed as being too high in certain areas given the current conditions.

"We are aware of which streets have been missed and therefore you do not need to contact us to report your missed collection.

"Our teams are working hard to get to as many bins as possible, where safe to do so.

"This may take several days, so please leave your bins out until emptied.

"We thank you for your patience while we safely recover this position."

Temperatures are set to rise without any more snow forecast.

Today temperatures will reach a high of six degrees and Sunday temperatures will reach double digits - just. On Sunday another weather warning will be in place for wind.

The amber warnings are in place from 6pm Sunday until 9am Monday while the rain warnings come into force at 6am on Sunday until 6am on Monday.
