People travelling across Greater Manchester have been warned to expect delays after the entire tram network was shut down.

The Metrolink has not been scheduled to run anywhere in the city region until 9am on Sunday morning due to engineering works.

The Bee Network, which runs tram and bus services in Greater Manchester, says works had to be done because of a cracked rail on the way in to Victoria Station.

A statement on Sunday morning said: “No tram services will run until approximately 9am today, due to a network-wide shutdown.

“Replacement buses will run from Piccadilly Gardens to Ashton and around city centre stops from 9am.”

It added: “The network-wide shutdown and Ashton line engineering works on Sunday 21 January will still take place as planned.

“From start of service on Monday, most tram services will return to normal except for East Didsbury and Rochdale trams which will not call at Exchange Square until further notice.

“Both the East Didsbury-Rochdale Town Centre and East Didsbury-Shaw and Crompton services will operate via Market Street, Shudehill and Victoria.”

Anyone travelling across the city region on Sunday has been advised to check the latest tram departure times online and to check in with the Bee Network’s online travel hub.
