An appeal has gone out after the tragic death of a motorcyclist in a crash on a major road.

The 51-year-old man died at the scene of a crash on Blackburn Road, Egerton, close to Cox Green Road on the afternoon of Tuesday January 30.

Police say they were called to reports of a “serious collision” at around 4pm that afternoon.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Investigating officers established that a motorcyclist travelling northbound along Blackburn Road attempted to overtake a vehicle and mounted the easterly footpath before colliding with a drystone wall.

“Sadly, a 51-year-old man, the rider of the motorcycle, died at the scene.

“Officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or may have dashcam, CCTV or mobile footage from the area at the time of the incident, to please share it with officers to assist their enquiries.”

Traffic was closed in both directions for much of Tuesday afternoon and into the evening as emergency services went about their work.
