A fundraiser is being held in Bolton to honour the volunteers at a life saving charity, which is celebrating 200 years.

The fundraiser was set up by Smithills resident Sheila Taziker who decided she wanted to do something special for the volunteers at the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), and help raise as much money as possible.

She said: “They really are unsung heroes.

“They go out in all weathers, 365 days a year, holding down a day job as well, sacrificing time with their families to come to the aide of those in trouble, not just at sea, even though that is a majority of where help is needed, but in other places too.

“I have always had an admiration for the RNLI.

“And when we are on holiday, we always go to the lifeboat house and have a chat, make a few purchases and support them that way, but I've always wanted to do something more.”

Sheila says she has always had a love of the sea, with her maternal granddad being in the Royal Navy, and her mum also having a love for the sea.

Sheila added: “My mum couldn't swim, but loved watching it, listening to it, and even more so when mother nature changed the oceans mood.”

Since the RNLI was formed in 1824, volunteers have formed crews and funded the kit and lifeboats to save lives at sea.

The RNLI is the largest charity that saves lives at sea around the coasts of the UK.

The fundraising funday will take place this Sunday, at Hollywood Road Sports and Social Club, Hollywood Road, Bolton, BL1 6HP, from 1.30pm until 4.30pm.

There will be a toy stall, confectionary stall, cake stall, outdoor trampoline, a treasure hunt, hook a duck game, an alternative crab race, an entertainer from Non- Stop Kids Entertainment, Bolton Baton Twirlers, and much more.

Refreshments are available at the bar, run by welcoming and friendly bar staff as well.
