If your business is signwriting, it makes sense that your own premises would certainly be well advertised.

The Bolton News: Newport Street, Bolton, 1967

That was certainly the case with Edgerley’s Signs who were based on Newport Street in Bolton.

This photo, from 1967, shows the top end of Newport Street and Edgerley’s highly-decorated shopfront. As well as spelling out ‘signs’ in letters two storeys high, the window and bricks were painted to attract customers.

You can tell this was an old part of the town centre - just look how worn the steps are leading into the shop.

On the corner was a womenswear shop, Snooks, and on the opposite side of the sign shop is the army recruiting office.
