A Lancashire mother-of-four triumphed on tonight's episode of Gladiators, beating her opponent in dramatic style on the iconic travelator.

Nia Rutter, 37, from Blackpool, proved her mettle against Gladiators including Diamond, Sabre and Fury on the rebooted BBC version of the show.

On tonight's episode, Nia revealed she enjoyed playing hockey and netball as a child before losing sight in her left eye.

After becoming partially sighted, 6ft Nia then turned her focus to athletics as a way of enjoying sports and finding solace from being picked on for 'being different.' She went on to become a Lancashire sportsperson of the year.

Presenter Bradley Walsh asked Nia: "How do you think you'll get on without having sight in your left eye?" to which the plucky contestant replied "I'll be alright - I've brought up four kids."

She then gestured how she was used to having to watch and run around after four young children, before burst into applause and cheers.

Going up against Sharan, 33, from Buckinghamshire, the pair were neck and neck by the end of The Eliminator round, before Nia was crowned the victorious woman on the night.

Winning contestants, who begin in the heats, move on to quarter-finals and semi-finals, until only four are left for the grand final.

Fans have been enjoying the show's return, with some describing it as "class" and "proper Saturday night family TV".

Just three weeks into the show coming back it has earned some favourable comparisons to the 1990s original.

The father and son duo of Bradley and Barney Walsh present the show, with football commentator Guy Mowbray describing the action and former referee Mark Clattenburg overseeing the events.
