A Bolton teaching assistant has been hailed as a “shining example” of what apprentices can achieve thanks to her successful career.

Lyndsey Dobson, 37, now works as a fully qualified teaching assistant at ESSA Primary in Great Lever, having done her apprenticeship at Bolton College.

Her career journey, from school lunch time assistant to teaching assistant, was celebrated as part of National Apprenticeship week with a visit from Bolton South East MP Yasmin Qureshi.

Ms Dobson said: “I’m 37 now, and proof that age shouldn’t be a barrier when it comes to Apprenticeships; they’re suitable for most people and as an adult they’re ideal because you can learn whilst earning a salary, plus they’re debt free.

“It was lovely meeting Yasmin and telling her about my journey as an apprentice.”

“These grades are only given to apprentices who regularly go above and beyond what is required to be competent in their role.

“As a college, we are so proud of Lyndsey and what she has achieved with the support of her wonderful colleagues at ESSA Primary.”

Ms Qureshi then went on a tour of the school with deputy head Kate Putt to see a recent library refurbishment and update for herself.

Ms Putt said: “At ESSA Primary, we believe in fostering an environment that encourages growth and development, and Lyndsey's success is a testament to the impact of such an approach.

“We’d like to thank Yasmin for taking time out of her busy schedule to meet Lyndsey and our pupils.”
