This relatively early aerial photo dates to the early 1950s and gives us a clear view over much of Deane.

Wigan Road crosses the lower part of the photo with Deane Church Lane going towards to top of the picture on the left and Hulton Lane to the right.

You can clearly make out Dove Mill and Deane Weaving Sheds - the area’s major employers at the time.

Look at all the uniform terraced houses, many of which have been demolished over the years in the central part of the picture.
