A man has been arrested in Bolton town centre this afternoon, Friday, after a woman was assaulted.

Police were called to Knowsley Street at around 12.10pm after reports a woman had been attacked.

Two police cars parked near the Greggs store, opposite McDonald's, and a police van arrived soon after and a man was arrested on suspicion of common assault.

“The victim is currently being supported by officers", police added.

A police spokesman said: “On Friday, at around 12.10pm, officers were called to reports of an assault of a woman on Knowsley Street in Bolton.

“Officers attended the scene, and a 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of section 39 assault.

“The victim is currently being supported by officers and the suspect remains in custody for further questioning.”
