A teenager snuck into a garage alongside two accomplices to steal a motorbike, a court has heard.

Kaidan Scally, of Atherton, was one of a trio caught on CCTV at the time of the incident last year.

The owner of the BMW G310R left it in a garage as he left for a night shift but his wife was at home at the time of the incident in Tyldesley.

Scally, then aged 18, snuck into the garage alongside two accomplices to steal the motorbike.

The police attended after a neighbour saw them acting suspiciously. They arrived and spotted the vehicle in the area surrounded by tools.

Prosecutor Andrew Mackintosh set out the impact on the owner at Bolton Crown Court.

Mr Mackintosh said: "He is concerned this was not opportunistic but this was pre-planned and those involved were watching his house.

"He has had reservations of staying at home and he has had to take time off to stay at home with his wife. He installed security systems."

Scally was arrested at the scene after he tried to return to the car in which he arrived at the scene. His accomplices remain at large.

In defence, Neil Ronan said Scally has a number of issues such as ADHD and autism, although at the moment these are undiagnosed.

Mr Ronan said: "He is young and there is a lot of work to be done with him in relation to his issues. He is sorry for his actions which is why he wished to plead guilty.

"Today he knows he will be lucky not to go to prison but perhaps this is one of the circumstances Your Honour will consider the imposition of a suspended sentence."

Scally, of Freshfield Avenue, was sentenced to 20 months suspended for 18 months.

However the teen father-of-two received a talking-to from Recorder Nick Flanagan.

Recorder Flanagan said: "You are young and this remains the only offence against you. You show some insight although it is incomplete.

"You need to be an example to your children and a father figure. This is not the father figure they need."
