A man dubbed “the worst kind of predator” who abused a boy for over a decade has been jailed thanks to his victim’s “extraordinary courage".

Raymond Willan, 78, was finally brought to justice week after his victim bravely brought his crimes to light, telling police that the abuse had been happening for several years.

Thanks to the victim’s courage, Eccles man Willan has now been convicted of a range of child sex offences.

DC Amy Barrett, of Greater Manchester Police's Child Protection Investigation Unit, said: “The courage of the victim in this horrific case is extraordinary and without it Willan would still be at large.

“He is the worst kind of predator who exploited a child for his own sexual gratification. 

“Victims of sexual abuse, however young, should not be afraid to report it to police we have specially trained staff who will investigate with compassion and determination.” 

Brought before Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, Willan pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault on a child under 13 and two counts of sexual activity with a child aged 13-16.

He also pleaded guilty to possession of extreme pornography. 

Willan has now been jailed for eight years.
