Greggs Bakery in Bolton town centre is now open after an IT issue affected stores nationwide.

The issue caused problems with its tills.

This morning the store on Deansgate had a notice on the door saying it was shut for "essential maintenance".

The notice stated: "We're sorry! We've had to temporarily close our shop for essential maintenance.

"Sorry for the disappointment - we'll be back open soon!"

It reopened before 11am.

A Greggs spokesperson said: "We have now resolved the technical issue that affected tills in some of our shops earlier this morning.

"The majority of shops affected are now able to take card and cash payments again and we expect the issue to be fully resolved shortly.

On Saturday, outages to payment systems prevented Sainsbury’s and Tesco stores across the country from accepting contactless card payments and issuing home deliveries.

On Friday, McDonald’s suffered a “global technology system outage” which the fast-food chain said had not been directly “caused by a cybersecurity event”.

Greggs operates more than 2,450 shops across the UK.
