Bolton and its surrounding areas have plenty of places to get a chippy tea and we asked Bolton News readers on Facebook what they thought were the best places for fish and chips.
Several places received multiple mentions so here’s a breakdown of some of the best as voted for by you.

7 of the best fish and chip shops in Bolton
Sumner D & J L (known as Bennetts Lane Chippy)
Location: 117 Bennetts Lane, Halliwell, Bolton, BL1 6JE
This chippy on Bennetts Lane was one of the chippies mentioned on our Facebook post more than 25 times.
One person wrote: “Bennett’s Lane Chippy. The best chippy in the world by far never mind Bolton!”
Another said: “Bennett’s Lane if you go with your child he always give them a couple of chips wrapped in paper dipped in gravy while you wait simply the best by far”.
New Bury Chippy
Location: 46 George Street, Farnworth, Bolton, BL4 9RJ
Next up, we’re heading over to Farnworth as New Bury Chippy was mentioned numerous times by readers on the Facebook post.
The fish and chip shop was praised for its “big portions” and “gorgeous food”.
On its Facebook page, New Bury Chippy describes itself as a “Traditional English fish and chip shop.”
Holts Riverside Fish and Chip Shop
Location: 71 Market Street, Kearsley
Another chippy with plenty of votes on the Facebook post was Holts Riverside Fish and Chip Shop.
One person who recommended this chippy, said: “lovely food and the bonus is its gluten free”.
On its Facebook page, the fish and chip shop says: “Having had the same owners since its birth 21 years ago Holts Riverside is an English Fish and Chip shop that offers Gluten Free foods and traditional home made dishes, pies and cakes.”

Mr Chips also received a few mentions with one visitor giving praise for its “excellent delivery and delicious food”.
On its Facebook page, the chippy explains that a click-and-collect option is available as well as delivery.

Whitesides offers a range of items including fish and chips, pies, chicken burgers and chicken nuggets.
Its website says it offers “The BEST Fish & Chips in Bolton”.
