Police clocked motorists breaking the speed limit during the latest roadside checks on some of Bolton accident hotspots.

Officers were monitoring speed on Moss Bank Way and Chorley New Road, where there have been a number of accidents recently, as part of Operation Classify.

Three drivers were reported for excess speed on Moss Bank Way after being stopped  for being clocked doing in excess of 40mph on the 30mph stretch of road.

One vehicle was seized on Manchester Road, Bolton, after no insurance details could be traced.The Bolton News:

One driver was reported for using his mobile phone while driving.

A spokesman for GMP said: "During speed enforcement on Chorley New Road a vehicle made off after doing 46mph in the 30mph zone.

"The vehicle was abandoned on Spa Road following a short pursuit.

"The vehicle was seized and enquiries are ongoing to identify the driver.

A similar speed operation was conducted earlier this month on Chorley New Road.

Just minutes after officers set up their operation, drivers were already being warned of the operation by map app Waze.

However, Inspector Nick Bonson said the operation was still worth it, with drivers slowing down due to the warnings, making the road safer.
