A popular venue has been transformed into a cosy family country pub as part of an estimated £190,000 investment.

The Waggon and Horses in Westhoughton temporarily closed in March last year, until the One Vision Group took over in October.

As part of the first phase of the complete refurbishment, managing director of One Vision Group, Reece Kilcoyne, closed the pub for a short period last week to allow work to be carried out again.

The renovation has included fitting new carpet, painting warmer colours on the walls inside, and installing soft furniture.

Reece said: “We love the new look.

“It needed that investment because it started looking old and tired.

“It’s been well received by the customers and it’s already given us a boost.”

The second phase of the refurbishment will involve work to the external sign and lighting, which is due to start in June.

And phase three - which will be carried out in the second half of June – which will enhance their sizeable beer garden and turn it into a terrace style, overlooking the stunning Rivington views, complete with a pizza oven.

The Bolton News: The pub has also started putting on live entertainment on a Saturday and a live acoustic singer.

The pub is managed by Steph Andrews, assistant manager Sky Shaw, and floor manager Sue Allison.

Reece set up One Vision Group two years ago, after being in the pub industry since he was aged 16, as a glass collector, and gradually worked his way up, until he ran his own pub at 19.

He currently has six sites, including some pubs, and a hotel.

The pub has a rich history, and there are around 18 different style windows across each section of the pub.

Each window represents and illustrates a moment in local history, with numerous Coats of Arms including those of Leigh, Hulton, Browne of Brinsop and Ryland.

Children can also eat free every weekend at this pub.
