Radcliffe: Police called after incident at mill involving youths

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to Constellation Mill on Ainsworth Road in Radcliffe on Tuesday at 6.45pm to reports of children at the top of scaffolding at the site.

A fire engine was called as well as a police van, two police cars and an ambulance.

No injuries were reported and no arrests were made.

A GMP spokesperson added: "They all came down off the roof and the road was reopened shortly after."

The road closure was in place from around 7pm to 8pm.

A dog walker said: “There was someone up there which is why they had the extending equipment out.

“They even sent a drone up there as well to make sure.

“Then I saw them go through the door and that’s about it.”

Neighbours said the incident was not a regular occurrence.

A spokesman for GMFRS said: “At just after 7pm on Tuesday (April 16) three fire engines from Whitefield, Bury and Bolton fire stations plus the technical response unit from Ashton fire station were called to assist Greater Manchester Police with an incident on Hardman Street, Radcliffe. Firefighters were in attendance for just over an hour.”

The dog walker added: “It’s only because there is scaffolding going on.

“The funny thing is when there was really strong winds the planks were coming off, so a neighbour rang the police and they said there is nothing we can do about it.

“What would you do if it hit someone?”

Another neighbour who had been watching the incident unfold said they were glad nobody was hurt.
