Two youths have been arrested after police were called to the town centre after an incident involving bats.

Eye-witnesses said they saw a chase involving a couple of lads just before 1pm on Tuesday.

Police told The Bolton News that two youths have been arrested after receiving reports of someone with a baseball bat in the town centre.

They were arrested on suspicion of affray and remain in custody while enquiries remain ongoing.

The incident took place at around 12.50pm on Black Horse Street.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “We were called at 12.50pm to reports of males with bats on Black Horse Street.

“Two male youths were arrested inside an hour and are in custody on suspicion of affray.”

An eyewitness says they saw a couple of groups of lads chasing one another, with some wearing balaclavas.

He said it was “quite terrifying” to see in broad daylight, which alarmed some families near Bolton Market, before being located by police.

One witness said: "It was quite terrifying; a couple of young lads were wearing balaclavas and one of them had a baseball bat.

“They were clearly chasing another group of lads.

“There was lots of shouting going on too.

“It happened in broad daylight and there were lots of families around looking worried and wondering what was going on.

“Even after they passed lots of people were looking towards where they had gone, and some were clearly angry at seeing such blatant aggression.”
