This is the terrifying moment a car set on fire yesterday afternoon in Westhoughton.

A mum and child were taken to safety as the blaze broke out due to the ‘engine giving out’ at around 3pm on Wednesday, April 25.

Atherton fire crews were called to the scene and say that there were no reported injuries.

The fire happened on Manchester Road, in Westhoughton when the mum noticed smoke.

They were both able to get out of the vehicle safely, and firefighters made the area safe.

Watch manager Steve Green of Atherton Fire Station said: “The car fire happened at around 3pm on Manchester Road, in Westhoughton.
