Police are on scene at a country park in connection with a murder investigation where body parts were found at a park earlier this month.

Greater Manchester Police began investigating the murder of a man in Kersal, Salford, after a dog walker found a torso wrapped in plastic on Kersal Dale earlier in April.

Earlier this week two men, aged 42 and 68, were arrested on suspicion of murder. The men, who are believed to be known to each other, are in custody to be interviewed.

Now today, April 28, there are four scenes in place across Greater Manchester in connection with the incident, as a result of a "breakthrough", according to GMP.

One of those scenes is at Blackleach Country Park in Walkden, where a significant portion of it has been cordoned off.

Its entrances at John Street and Sportside Avenue have been cordoned off, as well as the entrance to Linnyshaw Loopline heading east off Moss Lane.

The park can, however, be accessed from the Linnyshaw Loopline at its intersection with Worsley Road North and its intersection with Moss Lane, heading west.

Multiple Tactical Aid Units could be seen, as well as police cars, vans and an Underwater Unit parked in Sportside Grove. There was also a GMFRS unit at the car park.

Residents around John Street, where the main car park has been cordoned off, spoke about police activity in the area.

One, who didn't want to be named, said: "They came here yesterday and called here, looked at my cameras.

"They wouldn't tell me why just that they were looking into an incident.

"They said they were investigating an incident around April 3/4. They won't let anyone on there (the park).

"I was out and my next-door neighbour called me to say the police wanted to look at my cameras. I asked what they were looking for and they just said it was a police incident.

"The police I spoke to were from Ashton-under-Lyne."

He said that the officers arrived at around 4.30pm yesterday.

Another resident, who didn't want to be named, said she was told by the police they could be on scene for "up to three weeks".

One other resident added: "I just became aware they were here yesterday, in plain clothes, and they wanted to look at people's cameras from a certain timeframe on a certain day.

"Two other vehicles went up the street this morning, and three Tactical Aid Units were in the car park.

"They also had sniffer dogs out, around the visitor centre and on the green (where John Street and Hill Top Road are).

"It is not very nice, it's a bit unsettling. You don't have this amount of police activity, with the underwater unit, unless they're investigating something."
