Á number of Bolton schools have been named as among the best in the country - with headteachers receiving letters of congratulations from the government.

Based on the 2023's summer Key Stage Two results, primary schools celebrated outstanding results, putting them in the top one per cent of the country.

The Bolton News: St Brendan's RC Primary School

St Brendan's RC Primary School. The Harwood school recorded a perfect 100 per cent score in the phonics screening check, with every Year One pupil meeting the expected standard.

The school received a letter from Damian Hinds, Minister of Schools congratulating staff and pupils on their outstanding results.

The Bolton News: Hardy Mill School

Neighbouring school, Hardy Mill Primary School also recorded a perfect 100 per cent score in the phonics screening check, with every Year One pupil meeting the expected standard and received a letter from Mr Hinds.

Lostock Primary School is in the top 200 schools in the country when it comes to pupils mastering their timetables.

The school received a letter of congratulations from the Minister for Schools for its outstanding results.

The school averaged a score of 24.4 out of 25, placing it within the top 200 schools for its results.

The Bolton News: Egerton Primary School

Egerton Primary School made it in to the top one per cent of schools in the country for its results in developing key skills in reading and writing.

The headteacher Sam Mitchell says she is delighted that 100 per cent of Year One pupils at Egerton Community Primary School children achieved the expected standard in the statutory phonics check.

The letter states that good marks in phonics is vital to help pupils develop 'a firm foundation from which they can become increasingly fluent and develop a lifelong love of reading'.

The Bolton News: Masefield School

Masefield Primary School in Little Lever received a letter of congratulations from the Minister for Schools for its outstanding results.

The school recorded 97 per cent of pupils in Year One meeting the expected standard in the phonics screening check putting it in the top three per cent of schools.

The Olive School on Waterloo Street and The Valley Community School in Deane were ranked by The Times as part of the best 500 schools in the country, placing 55 and 486 respectively in their overall scores.
