With a glorious weekend forecast, beer gardens will be the place to be.

And at The Bay Mare in Astley Bridge has given its beer garden an upgrade ready for the summer.

With a fresh lick of paint, art hung around the garden, flower planters and various décor pieces, the pub has breathed new life into the beer garden, as it also prepares to hold events for the first time.

Owner, Marcus Cooper said: “We had new planters made and new deco and paint.

“We wanted it to be nice for people to sit outside and are looking to have events out here in summer, so you want people to enjoy themselves and come back next time.

“It was just a bit tired over winter with planters falling apart, so anything that was broken we have made again.

“We got the seating out of storage and there’s décor and artwork on walls as well as mirrors.

“It looks nice and out of the way and not on the main road, so you don’t get cold breezes, but a nice sun area.”

The changes were made recently, but people are already loving the beer garden’s fresh look.

Marcus said: “Everybody loves it, they think it is fantastic.

“It’s going really well, and it is nice and busy.

“We are always raising money for charity and people turn up, so we must be doing well.”

The first event to be held at the pub is a Brave the Shave fundraiser on June 22 with a DJ, barbecue and raffle prizes with Beth Yates shaving her head for her mum, who was diagnosed with cancer.

Marcis said: “We have already got around £800, so we would love to raise even more.

“We are a community pub so get on with everyone and she only lives next door, and it is important to us to support everyone here.

“And this weekend we have a free jukebox, and the weather is supposed to be nice so we hope everyone will be out enjoying the weather.

“Make the most of it, get out and go to your local.

“We don’t get the best weather in this country so as soon as it comes, you have got to enjoy it.”

The pub will undergo more work in the near future with brewery work, new signs, and a new smoking shelter.

Marcus plans to revamp the flooring and install new radiators inside.

For the summer, The Bay Mare will be showing The Euros as well as a bouncy castle for children 10 and under.
