A CHIPPY that was launched more than four decades ago has been put up for sale in Leigh.

Tucked away along Firs Lane, two doors down from the Spinners Arms pub, Firs Lane Chippy has been a popular fish and chip shop over the decades in Leigh.

Passed down from previous owners Bob, Joanne, and Wes, Sandra Hindley took over the reins of the business 11 years ago.

While she hopes that the unit can remain as a chippy, Sandra has placed the business on the market so that she can take a step back and spend more time with her family and grandchildren.

Speaking about the business, Sandra, 62, from Pennington, said: "We have a good group of regulars and still get passing trade and new customers coming in and helping us tick over.

"But we are a traditional chippy and after eleven years, I don't really want to take on the stress of dealing with Just Eat, Deliveroo, and deliveries.

"There have been rising overheads [during the cost of living crisis] but we have still been doing well.

"I have my husband and daughter helping out too but I just think it's time for a step back so I can spend more time with my grandkids."

With Sandra explaining that there has been a "fair bit of interest" in the chippy since placing it on the market, information on property website Zoopla states that the business comes with an "outstanding reputation, repeat custom, and a huge scope for expansion."

With the business being sold on a leasehold basis, and currently subject to a five-year lease, the business has been put up for sale for £75,000.
