A choir which has performed with Hans Zimmer and Andrea Bocelli is coming to Bolton for a summer concert.

Manchester Chamber Choir will perform its summer concert, There is a Country, at Bolton Parish Church at 7.30pm on Saturday, (May 25).

The choir regularly works alongside the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and has also performed with the Xi’an Symphony Orchestra, as well as supporting performers including Hans Zimmer, Jarvis Cocker, Andrea Bocelli, and the Pet Shop Boys.

Conducted by Vicente Chavarria, the summer concert will include Hubert Parry’s I Was Glad, Bairstow’s Blessed City, Heavenly Salem, and Stanford’s Beati Quorum Via.

A spokesman for the choir said: “Bolton has just been awarded Greater Manchester Town of Culture 2024 and has a long tradition of delivering top quality performing arts events.

“Bolton Parish Church has long been a centre of musical excellence within the town and the Greater Manchester area, with regular concerts and broadcasts by local choirs and orchestras.

“The church houses a magnificent three-manual Hill organ, parts of which date back to 1795, which is used to lead worship, for celebrity organ recitals and in the church’s annual summer series of lunchtime concerts.”

The choir was founded by a group of friends in 2003, who initially gathered in each other’s front rooms to rehearse.

Tickets are available on the door and online. (www.manchesterchamberchoir.co.uk)
