It might look as though it is a still from a silent movie but this was Victoria Square in Bolton in 1933 when smoke from the factory and mill chimneys created a haze which was just part of every Victoria Square, Bolton, 1933 (Picture: Newsquest)day life.
From the shadows you can see it was a sunny day but the smog still lingered.
You can understand why legislation was needed to clean up these industrial heartlands.
