A spokesman for Electricity North West said the fault was more complex than initially thought and involved a fault on the overhead network and the section of cable causing the issue had to be disconnected.
The power cut affected a number of postcode areas throughout Bury, with residents in Ainsworth having their power restored in the early hours of Monday.
Live power cuts can be found on Electricity North West's website.
