“Two if not three” shop units at a highly anticipated development are in their “final stages of agreement” to be filled, town hall has heard.
This comes with work well underway on the Farnworth Green scheme, which aims to create dozens of new homes with shops bars and a community hub.
Bolton Council heard this week how the possible occupiers have already been found for the community hub as well as for some of the shopping spaces.
Cllr Paula Connor-Bennett, of Farnworth South, said: “As its down to complete in November this year, obviously the community is asking what’s going into the community hub?”
The Farnworth Green project is led by development company Capital&Centric and is set to replace the town’s old shopping precinct.
Earlier this year in March, Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham had visited the site to see the works getting underway.
The completed scheme is set to include as many as 85 one and two bedrooms with 12 family homes and more than 20,000 square feet of space for bars, cafes and independent shops.
As well as the community hub the project will also include a new public square and spaces for community events.
Cllr Connor-Bennett had put her question about who will occupy the community hub to a meeting of Bolton Council’s place scrutiny committee at town hall.
In response, assistant director of development and regeneration Paul Whittingham said that the council was working to get more details on the use of the hub.

He said that the NHS had expressed an interest in using the hub, while Farnworth Library had also shown an interest in the space.
Mr Whittingham said that the council had a 25-year lease on the hub, with the first two years rent free, and that he hoped a more detailed report would be ready as soon as possible.
He said: “In terms of the shop units we’re aware that two if not three of the eight are at the final stage of agreement.”
Mr Whittingham said he hoped for information about the shop units would also be available to be made public soon.
