One pound doesn’t get you much nowadays, it does however get you Carrs’ new sweet apple pasty.

The beloved Bolton bakery recently brought out the less savoury take on one of the nation’s favourite treats – we tested it out.

The sweet apple pasty  was launched at the start of the month and is now available in-store.

On first thoughts, an apple pasty sounds a bit odd; you wouldn’t have an ice cream-filled Yorkshire pudding, or chocolate sprinkle glazed roasties.

But what did I make of the unique snack?

Well, the first thing is, it’s not a pasty, it’s just like an apple pie you’d get from McDonalds.

I bought two for £1.80, and for that price, they were a pleasant mid-week boost.

Very sweet, but not overly to the point of sickly.

But were they an amazing weird and wonderful taste sensation that I hadn’t experienced before? No, absolutely not.

They could do with being a little bigger, but then again for one pound, you can’t complain.

Carrs describes it as “sweetened Bramley apple wrapped in puff pastry and topped with demerara sugar” and it’s exactly that, so if you’re a Boltionian with a sweet tooth give it a try – it’s not like it’s going to leave you out of pocket!
