During the pandemic, many local communities came together to support one another, helping those who were affected by the many lockdowns that took place.
As we were almost confined to our homes, many communities organised outdoor group activities such as local walks and runs, six feet apart of course, to not only keep active but also to take our minds off the situation we were in.
However, since returning to ‘normality’, the activities that had brought people together during difficult times became less important, as many people went back to work and were preoccupied with their own lives.
To once again bring people together from different areas of Bolton and secure the foundation of what was once a strong community, an evening walk was arranged via the Farnworth and Kearsley First Facebook page.
When the walk was advertised, there was an outpour of interest from locals, as they believed this was a great opportunity to get the community back together again.
The evening walk is advertised for all ages and abilities, the perfect opportunity to get to know people from different backgrounds and bond over topics of interest.
The evening walk takes place at Clifton Country Park every Thursday at 6:30pm, a favourite among locals because of its scenic views and unique wooden animal sculptures.
The park is also mostly flat surface, ideal for those who struggle to walk up hills or steep inclines.
As the walk is in the evening, this allows locals who work full-time to also join.
The evening walk caught the attention of local Councillor Sylvia Crossley, who loved the idea of people coming together and being part of a group who all share the same passion of keeping bonds in the local community.
Sylvia joined the group and began to advertise the evening walk on Facebook, encouraging people to join the group and attracting more attention to the evening walk.
She said: “We invite new people to join us.
“It’s a fabulous group and lovely to see everyone chatting.”
As well as bringing communities together, being active and talking to new people is also important for our mental and physical health.
She added: “The exercise is important for our health and wellbeing.”
If you live in or around Bolton and are interested in joining a weekly evening walk around Clifton Country Park, visit the Farnworth and Kearsley First Facebook page for more details. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and keep active.
