Diane Morgan has revealed how the borough's biggest star helped her to get her first role in television.

The 49-year-old actress from Farnworth was quizzed on The One Show about the new season of her hit show Mandy.

In the show, she plays the chaotic and jobless Mandy Carter, whose adventures typically end in disaster.

The show's fourth season is currently showing on BBC Two with every episode also available on iPlayer.

JB Gill said: "You've had some brilliant guests and cameos on the show, and this season's no different.

"Of course, you've got Martin Lewis."

"Martin Lewis," Diane said, "the money saving expert!"

Alex Jones said: "That was a shock! What were you thinking of then?"

Diane Morgan said: "Well, we did this Pretty Woman spoof episode, and I thought - who better than Martin Lewis?

It wasn't just Martin Lewis that made an appearance in the new season however - with another famous Boltonian entering the show.

Alex Jones said: "Well we love Martin Lewis, but Paddy McGuinness is in this, isn't he?

"As your crush."

Diane Morgan said: "We thought - who would be Mandy's ideal man?

"Paddy McGuinness."

The actress, who went to George Tomlinson School in Kearsley, also revealed how she got her first job in television.

Diane said: "I wrote to Peter Kay and said I'm from Bolton and I want to be an actress if you're ever doing anything, let me know.

"And God love him, he got me in Phoenix Nights.

"That was my first TV job."

A bemused JB Gill asked: "did he actually write back?

Diane said: "Yeah, he rang me up when I was in work and said, 'come and do this'."
