WANDERERS’ ownership group have invested £18million into the running of the club this summer, Companies House has confirmed.

Two separate share issues in July have now hit the public domain, with the money injected by existing shareholders – i.e. Football Ventures (Whites) Limited and the Swiss consortium, comprised mainly of leading executives from the energy and minerals company Trafigura, and their families.

The consortium is headed up by Ben Luckock, brother of FV board member Nick Luckock.

Running Bolton Wanderers as a League One club continues to be a costly business, with the group accounts showing losses of more than £11m last year.

There has been unprecedented investment on the playing front at this level of football with seven-figure fees paid for the likes of Joel Randall and John McAtee.

This year Bolton have recouped some money with the sales of players like Aaron Collins and Dion Charles – but they have also paid out fees for Joel Randall, Richard Taylor, Ethan Erhahon, Xavi Simons, Thierry Gale and more.

The current share issue should keep the coffers topped up, offer Steven Schumacher a competitive playing budget and could also include the capacity to repay a loan to Prescot Business Park, which fell due this month.

It is understood that the composition of the board remains the same with Sharon Brittan, Michael James and Nick Luckock still the main players, with the Swiss group also offering financial assistance.
