Arts and culture take centre stage at an outstanding Farnworth school, which has been recognised for its work to ensure such enrichment opportunities are open to all pupils.

St Peter’s CE Primary School celebrated a night of success at this year’s Educate Awards 2025 after securing a first-place win and earning a runner-up nomination.

The primary school won the Outstanding Arts in Primary School award and was named runner-up in the Most Inspirational Primary School category.

The school promotes excellence through arts education and CPD (continuing professional development) opportunities.

It partners with theatres, museums, artists, and music organisations to provide exciting experiences for their students.

The school’s head teacher, Jenny Scott, told The Bolton News: “We have always been committed to offering a full, balanced, and varied curriculum for the children.

“Art, design technology, and music have been massively invested in.”

St Peter’s also has its own art studio with a specialist art teacher.

“When the children use the studio, they feel like it’s extra special because they leave their classroom," she said.

“We recognise that our children need opportunities to shine in lots of different areas.

“We have a big focus on academic progress in maths and English, but our motto is ‘learn, sparkle and shine’.

“We want the children to sparkle and to discover what they enjoy.”

The school takes the students on trips to the theatre throughout the year, as well as a whole school trip in December.

“We are trying to give the children high-quality, wider opportunities,” said Mrs Scott

“The whole curriculum is taken very seriously.”

She said the children love the arts trips, and for some, it is often their first time visiting a theatre.

“We also invest in cookery lessons, which is another special morning for them.”

Mrs Scott praised the school’s passionate subject leaders who are committed to their areas of expertise.

Discussing the school’s recent success, she said: “We took 10 staff with us to the Educate Awards.

“It was a great moment to hear our school announced over many other wonderful schools.

“I was really proud of our team, and it’s very well deserved.”

Mrs Scott added that the school was overwhelmed to also be nominated for the Outstanding Primary School award and said it was “a testament to the work of the staff, students, parents, and school community.

“The children and families at the school are just delightful.

“The staff are so nurturing, and invest so much, I couldn’t ask for a better team.”

The Educate Awards welcome entries from government-funded and independent schools and colleges across the North West, including Liverpool, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire, and surrounding areas.
