The first signs of spring can be enjoyed at Over Hulton as daffodils begin to line the roads.

The glorious flowers create a blaze of yellow through the area every year at this time thanks to the community-spirited residents.

And this autumn the Over Hulton Community Group would love more volunteers to join them to plug gaps in areas, particularly on Salford Road.

John Bullen, from the Over Hulton Community Group, said: "It was always my dream with the community group to plant daffodils all the way along the A6 between Four Lane Ends and Logistics North.

"When we first started we were doing about 50m a year, so I wouldn't have finished until I was about 156!"

But about three years ago, John was contacted by the people at Amazon.

They told him that, now their plant was established in the area, they had a duty to get involved in projects that help the local community.

They loved John's daffodil planting idea, and not only provided three staff members to help with the planting, but paid for 5000 bulbs themselves.

In 2024 there was a mix-up with the order, and 5000 daffodil bulbs were misplaced.

Amazon ordered 5000 more, and provided a team of about 15 staff to help with the planting.

"I'd like to say that the Amazon staff are absolutely brilliant," said John.

"They're hardworking, polite, enthusiastic."

After the bulbs had been planted, the original 5000 bulbs were discovered, intact, in Scotland.

They ended up planting the whole 10,000 bulbs that year.

Anyone who wants to help the planting can contact the Over Hulton Community Group, and bulbs will be supplied free of charge.

The group - alongside the local community - has planted more than 19,000 bulbs over the last few years between Four Lane Ends and Logistics North, with help from Amazon who have a warehouse there.
