Residents in Farnworth have been complaining about faded road markings in the area, according to a councillor.

Farnworth Councillor Susan Haworth stated that residents have have been contacting her to report faded road markings around Farnworth, at locations such as Silverdale Road.

Faded markings represent 'critical road safety issues' according to Cllr Haworth, with good, prominent markings reducing the risk of 'accidents and near misses.'

She said: “Residents report faded road markings to the council, along with lobbying me about them, because they see them as a key tool in the box to improve road safety. They point out that there are any number of not so good drivers on the roads, so road markings are important to try and reduce accidents and near misses.”

The councillor added: “Reducing the number of drivers who may be required to ‘guess lane positions’, if road markings have faded, is important. So is the prevention of drivers overshooting junctions, because of unclear road markings. In fact, these are critical road safety issues.”

Cllr Haworth put out a Facebook post urging residents to contact the council's highways team if they discover any road markings that are faded or erased.

This can be done by contacting highways@bolton.gov.uk or streetcare@bolton.gov.uk she said, urging residents to take pictures of what they find.

A Bolton Council officer said: "“To report an issue with road markings please email Streetcare@bolton.gov.uk”

Cllr Haworth also noted that road markings in many other wards had been completely erased, meaning the issue is not confined to Farnworth.

Some residents put forward suggestions, including. Wildman Lane, Lorne Street, and Egerton Street, stating they were in need of improvement.
