An Atherton-based junior football club has received a potentially life-saving donation from a neighbouring housing developer.
Atherton Collieries Juniors FC has been given an automated external defibrillator (AED) by Bloor Homes, which recently completed its Beefold Meadows development next to the club’s pitches.
The equipment could also be used by residents in the surrounding area, including those living at Beefold Meadows.
Martyn Daley, vice chairman of club development for Atherton Collieries Juniors FC, said: “On behalf of everyone at Atherton Collieries Juniors FC, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Bloor Homes for their generous donation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for our Bee Fold site.
"This vital piece of life-saving equipment strengthens our commitment to safeguarding, ensuring emergency medical support is readily available for our players, volunteers, supporters and the wider community.
“Partnerships like this demonstrate how local businesses can make a real difference by supporting grassroots football and helping create a safer environment for everyone who visits our Club.
"Thank you, Bloor Homes, for investing not only in our club, but in the wellbeing of our community.”
Atherton Collieries Juniors FC is the youth section of Atherton Collieries FC, a respected non-league team in Greater Manchester.
The club fields teams across multiple age groups, from the youngest players up to under-18s.
It is supported by a team of volunteer coaches, managers and committee members.
Lucy McCabe, sales director for Bloor Homes North West, said: “We are proud of our long standing tradition of supporting grassroots sport whether that’s through shirt sponsorships, equipment or, as in this case, a dedicated on-site defibrillator.
“We are equally proud of the relationships we build with our neighbours.
"Having been based alongside Atherton Collieries Juniors FC during our time at Beefold Meadows, we have seen first-hand the dedication and hard work of the Club’s volunteers so that young people and families across the area can enjoy playing football.
"Donating a defibrillator is our way of giving something permanent back to them, and it is something that the residents across the local area, including those at Beefold Meadows can benefit from too.”
Bloor Homes’ latest development in Atherton, Beefold Chase, is located off Crabtree Lane.
The new site will feature a show home and sales centre, with opening planned for autumn this year.
Those interested in the development can find more information or register for updates at bloorhomes.com.
