Search the Public Notice PortalA planning application has been submitted for a new public space and drop-off facilities at Bolton's main hospital.
The works are proposed at Royal Bolton Hospital, on Redgate Way in Farnworth, and aim to improve the approach and accessibility to the main entrance.
If approved, the development will include enhanced landscaping, dedicated drop-off spaces for up to five vehicles, and improved cycle parking.
In a statement, NTA Planning LLP said: "The absolute priority of this development is to enhance the quality of environment and public space around the hospital which is supported at national and local policy levels."

The plans support and complement a previously approved single-storey extension to the hospital entrance, which replaced the former undercroft drop-off area.
The proposed drop-off zone would be located opposite the main entrance on Redgate Way.
The north side of Redgate Way would be upgraded with new tree planting, hard and soft landscaping, and accessible cycle storage.
Fiona McDonnell, Managing Director of iFM Bolton who provide estate and facility services on behalf of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said: “As shown in the plans, the new main entrance will require an extension to the front of the hospital.
"This will utilise the area currently used as a patient drop off point. As a result, when work begins, the drop-off point will move to the new location at the entrance to Chadwick car park.

“Once the development is completed, the new drop off area will provide a safe, convenient and accessible arrival point for all patients and visitors, with the addition of a dedicated wheelchair store so that mobility support is readily available on arrival.
“We are grateful to our patients and visitors for their patience and understanding during these improvement works and look forward to welcoming them to a refreshed facility with a wider range of food and drink options in the near future.”
To the south, the new drop-off area would include shelters and improved pedestrian routes.
Access to the drop-off point would be via the expanded adjacent car park, with vehicles exiting through the Chadwick Car Park.
The application notes that existing bus stops on Redgate Way would be removed, but that no reduction in bus services is proposed as other stops within the hospital campus will remain in use.

A transport assessment submitted with the application concluded that the scheme would improve accessibility for visitors and patients without adversely affecting road safety or traffic flow.
The proposals are in line with the Royal Bolton Hospital’s long-term strategy to modernise facilities and improve visitor experience.
