Pictures show the moment a man discovered nearly two dozen bins as he was doing a clean-up near a major Bolton road.

At the River Croal, near Raikes Lane, the litter picker made the discovery as he was walking along the bank.

For Andy Capstick, from Astley Bridge, it is not the first time he has made such a discovery, having previously reported dozens of bags, bins and tyres at the spot near the A666 St Peter's Way.

He said: "I have found supermarket trolleys, bins, and bags for life when we have been working down there.

"It was down Raikes Lane I discovered it, but I have found nearly 200 bins dumped over the last few years.

"There is one in the river, several down the bank."

The spot is near the Waste and Recycling Centre, and across from several industrial businesses.

Mr Capstick is a volunteer who regularly contributes to cleaning up and maintaining his area in Astley Bridge.

He has previously painted railings, cleared up shrubs, and watered troughs alongside his efforts to involve local councillors in his work.

Bolton Council has been contacted for comment.

Those caught fly-tipping face massive penalties, including fixed penalty notices or unlimited fines in court.

If you are looking to get rid of your waste, Bolton Council provides local Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) and offers pre-booked collections to help you dispose of items legally.
