Promised to be the ‘heart of a thriving, active Radcliffe’ the town’s new hub has taken another ‘significant step forward’.
The building, in Dale Street, will boast a library, swimming pool and 100-station gym. There will also be a climbing wall, café, rooftop activity space and dedicated children’s area.
Last week, the keys to the building were handed over to Bury Council, with the authority saying this marks a ‘major milestone’.
The contractors have finished their part in the £40m project, with the council now set to get the ‘final fixtures and fittings’ in place.
The hub is ‘on track’ to open this autumn, leaders have said. Prices and opening hours are expected to be in line with other leisure centres in the borough.
Now, new pictures and video show the inside of the building and the community spaces that are coming together.
Lead member for adult care, health and public service reform Tamoor Tariq said: “This is really going to be at the beating heart of the Radcliffe community, but a leisure facility for the whole borough. It’s something that we are really, really proud of.”
Lead member for regeneration and growth Charlotte Morris added: “You should see the difference.
"The pool is looking amazing, the library is coming to life. We’re seeing all those little fixtures and fittings that are going to make this place sing. It’s over to us now to get that final work done, to get it over the line.”
Residents have welcomed the new building, with one saying: “Looking forward to this, can’t wait to see the new Radcliffe Hub open its doors!”
However, some have raised concerns about the lack of parking being created at the site.
