A man has been ordered to undergo mental health treatment after using racially aggravated abusive language to cause distress.
Bernard Brookes, 53, of Higher Market Street, Farnworth, Bolton, was found guilty of the offence that took place on July 24, 2024, in Bolton.
He was charged under section 31(b) and (4) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 for using threatening, abusive, or insulting words to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.
On June 23, 2026, Brookes changed his plea to guilty.
He was given an 18-month community order, including 12 months of non-residential mental health treatment under the supervision of a doctor.
Brookes is also required to participate in a 15-day rehabilitation activity and pay £50 in compensation.
A fine of £50 and costs to the Crown Prosecution Service amounting to £100 were also imposed.
