Shoppers and town centre visitors were stopped in their tracks this lunchtime as a film shoot took place for what is believed to a bank commercial.

Knowsley Street has been bustling with activity throughout the day as production crews, actors and dozens of extras descended on the area near Market Place.

A shop front has been temporarily converted into a fictional business called The Corner Bakery, with cameras repeatedly rolling as performers entered and exited the premises to create the appearance of a busy high street cafe.

While production staff have remained tight-lipped about exactly what is being filmed, it is understood the shoot is for a bank commercial.

The scale of the operation has attracted plenty of attention from shoppers and passers-by, with production vehicles, lighting equipment and crew members filling parts of the street.

Actors and extras were seen filming scenes around the bakery set throughout the day, helping recreate the atmosphere of a bustling town centre business.

The latest shoot is another sign of Bolton's growing popularity with film and television companies.

In recent years the borough has become a regular backdrop for dramas, streaming productions and advertising campaigns, with its mix of historic buildings, town centre streets and green spaces proving attractive to location scouts.

Last month, scenes for Netflix adaptation The Woods, starring Michelle Keegan, were filmed at locations including Smithills Estate and Heaton.

Bolton has also hosted a number of high-profile commercial shoots, with McVitie's using Le Mans Crescent earlier this year as part of a Jaffa Cakes advertising campaign.

Bolton Council has previously revealed that film and television productions have generated millions of pounds for the local economy, helping cement the town's reputation as the "Hollywood of the North".

And while the exact details of the Knowsley Street production have yet to be confirmed, it appears Bolton is once again playing a starring role in a major advertising campaign.
